The package was waiting for me at the doorstep as we pulled into the driveway. “Quick! Run and get it before the kids see it”, I thought! Like a dog with a bone, I swept up the brown cardboard box and stole away into the bedroom. This was my treat. And I wasn’t sharing it with anyone. At least not right now.
For some, chocolate excites the mind and heightens the senses. For others, it calms and soothes the nerves. For me, it quiets the clatter in my head and, for a moment, the silence is bliss. Whichever way you look at it, chocolate can mean many things to many people and for that it is a multi-billion dollar industry that continues to thrive in the U.S. market today.
Similar to that of wine, chocolate taste and quality varies depending on the ingredients and processes involved in its production. Surrounded with so many options, choosing that perfect blend can be a challenging task for the chocolate lover and connoisseur. To run a successful operation in the chocolate business, its important to take the guess work out of the decision making process for the consumer. Having a specialty niche certainly doesn’t hurt matters either. L.A. Burdick Chocolate knows all this and much more!

Sawyer's Dairy Bar is located on 1933 Lake Shore Road in Gilford, New Hampshire. Sawyer's is an outdoor dairy bar conveniently located in walking distance by nearby hotels and resorts. In fact, we dared and darted across busy Rt 11 so we could avoid taking the car. Although I hear their seafood, particularly, the clam and lobster rolls are out of this world, on this hot summer day, we were there for the home made ice cream. I diverted from my usual Black Raspberry and went for the Pistachio Nut...rich...very creamy...with generous portions on pistachio nuts...I was quite pleased! Prices are fair to high with with generous portions and friendly, courteous service. If we would have had a freezer in our unit, I would have gladly bought a gallon to take home to eat while watching the late, late show!
Baby Ostrich Ferns or Fiddlehead Ferns are a New England delicacy. For only a couple of weeks, during the months of April and May, the growth of new ferns will begin to emerge along river banks, streams, brooks, and other damp places. These green, tightly coiled fronds, are more commonly known as "fiddleheads" because of their resemblance to the scrolled end of a fiddle. While most all baby ferns can essentially be referred to as "fiddleheads", what sets the Ostrich Fern apart from other ferns are the brownish, leaf like scales that cover its coiled head and smooth, sturdy stem. These fiddleheads have a unique, nutty, but mild, flavor that is often associated with that of asparagus or okra. Not only are fiddleheads delicious to eat, but they are also low in calories and an excellent source of vitamin A & C.
